Polish-Australian conductor and composer Mateusz Gwizdałła is Assistant Conductor at Opera at the Castle since November 2019. Brought up in Melbourne, he is an alumni of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, and of Monash University, where in 2016 he gradated with a dual bachelor's degree in Music (Jazz Composition) and Performing Arts. In 2019, he completed a master's degree in symphonic and operatic conducting at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (FCUM).
In 2016 he collaborated with jazz trumpeter Niran Dasika on an album of his own compositions and arrangements entitled Silver Letters, and he appears on the album Young Warsaw Composers as conductor of the FCUM Orchestra (2018, Chopin Univsersity Press). Since 2017 he has been working as the second conductor of the musical Doctor Zhivago at the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic in Białystok.
